San Carlos Apache Tribe Enrollment Department Calls for Participation in Enrollment Code Survey
San Carlos, February 7, 2024 – The San Carlos Apache Tribe Enrollment Department is excited to announce the commencement of an online community survey aimed at gathering valuable insights on potential changes to the Tribe’s Enrollment Code.
The survey is now live and accessible through the San Carlos Apache Enrollment Department’s website at SanCarlosApacheEnrollment.com/survey
Survey Details:
The San Carlos Council deliberated on proposed amendments to the Enrollment Code on March 23, 2023. Notable changes, particularly in Section 200, suggest alternative criteria for tribal membership, with a significant shift towards utilizing family history (descendancy) rather than blood quantum. San Carlos Apache members and guardians of members under the age of 18 are encourages to participate in the survey and help shape the future direction of our tribe.
District Meetings:
To address any questions or concerns related to the survey, the Enrollment Department will be conducting four district meetings. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage directly with enrollment department representatives.
- February 15: Seven Mile District – Seven Mile Community Building, 5:30pm -7pm
- February 22: Peridot District – PFC Michael Noline Building, 5:30pm-7pm
- February 26: Gilson Wash District – Gilson Wash District Building, 5:30pm-7pm
- February 27: Bylas District – Stanley Hall, Bylas, 5:30pm-7pm
We would like to emphasize that the upcoming district meetings are specifically designated for discussions related to the community survey and are NOT intended as forums for debating potential changes to the Enrollment Code. The purpose of these gatherings is to provide a platform for attendees to seek clarifications, ask questions, and gain a deeper understanding of the survey process.
It is crucial to understand that the Enrollment Department operates as a neutral party in this context. Our primary role is to collect valuable data through the survey and subsequently submit it for review by the San Carlos Council.
